We are The River—a life-giving, Spirit-filled church located in the heart of Cumming, Georgia. As a proud member of the Church of God denomination, we exist to help people encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and live out the Gospel in everyday life.
WE BELIEVE
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God—truthful, powerful, and relevant for today. At the center of everything we do is our belief in one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe in Jesus Christ, born of the Virgin Mary, who lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father as our Intercessor. We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and that repentance is necessary for the forgiveness of sins.
We believe in the premillennial second coming of Jesus Christ—first, to resurrect the righteous dead and catch away living believers to meet Him in the air; and second, to reign on the earth for a thousand years. We believe in the bodily resurrection, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal separation for the wicked.
WE ARE
We are a Spirit-empowered church. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and in water baptism by immersion as a public declaration of faith.

Above all, we are a church where faith is alive, hope is restored, and people from every generation and background are welcome. Whether you’re new to church, returning after time away, or searching for a place to belong—we would be honored to walk this journey of faith with you.
OUR PASTOR
Jim Milligan
Pastors Jim and Kathy have dedicated their lives to serving God and helping others grow in their faith. As lead pastors of The River Church in Cumming, Georgia, they are passionate about teaching the Word, welcoming everyone with open arms, and guiding people to live out their God-given purpose.
Pastor Jim and Kathy have spent decades in ministry, traveling on mission trips and serving communities both near and far. They love creating spaces where people feel at home, encouraged, and inspired to make a difference.
They both have a heart for worship, using their gifts to travel, serve, and inspire the body of Christ.
The Milligans are the proud parents of their son, Josh, his wife, Courtney, and their grandchildren, Jacob and Caden. They love connecting with others, enjoying family moments, and sharing God’s love through both words and actions.
